carlsbad, california

The city that hosts SaveWealth.com's headquarters is also known for Flower Fields, its German roots, and the only Legoland outside of Europe.

Please read more to learn about our neighbors, and the city we call home: Carlsbad.

The Beginnings

Carlsbad, California got its start during the 1880's, when settlers discovered the city's waters were identical to those found in a Bohemian spa. Carlsbad Mineral Springs became well-known during the turn of the century for its "healing and medicinal powers."

Early Carlsbad Water TowerAs often happens, most good legends come to an end. But the city continued to thrive even after the spas closed. Carlsbad was incorporated as a city in the early 1950's and soon became known as the Avocado Capital of the World.

So how did this city become such a popular destination among locals and out-of-towners? Three words describe it:

Location, Location, Location

Carlsbad is located right on the Pacific just 30 miles north of San Diego. The town rarely sees the congestion that often plagues its metropolitan cousin. Plus, Los Angeles is less than 90 miles away. Close enough to go, but far enough to stay.

Carlsbad's climate is the envy of many. Temperatures usually range from 58-73 degrees all year round, and annual rainfall only amounts to 10 inches. Yet, the moist ocean air is perfect for crops and flowers that grow locally, resembling the flower fields of northern Europe.

Southern California's Newest Attraction

LEGOLAND® California is Carlsbad's newest resident. Perched atop 128 acres that overlook the Pacific Ocean, LEGOLAND is not your typical theme park. It's designed solely for kids, with interactive rides and entertainment for everyone in the family.

You won't find any roller coasters here. Imagination is what LEGOLAND designers had in mind. Children can learn to drive electric-powered Lego cars, and learn about American history from replicas of U.S. landmarks made completely out of off-the-shelf Lego blocks.

There's even a place for kids to search for treasure, and make their own creations from thousands of LEGO blocks.

Always In Bloom

Next to LEGOLAND, The Flower Fields have stood for years. Originally owned by the Ecke family, the Flower Fields draw 200,000 visitors from around Southern California each spring. More than 50 acres of bright flowers burst into color, seemingly on cue. The Fields also feature poinsettias around the holidays in December, and are a sight not to miss.

Shopping in Carlsbad, CA

If you get the urge, there's plenty of shopping to do around town. Within the village of Carlsbad, you'll find many small shops located along Carlsbad Village Drive. There are also small knick-knack shops along Grand Avenue, which parallels Carlsbad Village Drive.

If it's big names you're looking for, start your trip off at the Carlsbad Company Stores. The Carlsbad Company Stores opened in late 1997, and is an outlet-style mall that houses over 60 stores, restaurants, and shops. The Company Stores hosts some upscale tenants, like Ralph Lauren, Nine West, Gap and many more. When visiting the Carlsbad Company Stores, it's easy to get lost in a day of shopping.

Home to Big Resorts, Too

Our fine city pulls in its share of tourists as a growing destination spot. Carlsbad hosts two of the finest resorts in the world: La Costa Resort & Spa, and the Four Seasons Resort Aviara.

La Costa Resort & Spa hosts several PGA and LPTA events every year, with its two golf courses, tennis courts and incredible spa. Come during the tournaments and catch a glimpse of Tiger Woods chipping or Monica Seles diving for the net.

And the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, a relative newcomer having opened in 1997, lives up to its reputation. The facility overlooks Batiquitos Lagoon and features a beautiful golf course that was designed by one of golf's living legends, Arnold Palmer.

Something for Everyone

No matter what you're looking for, whether it be a day with the family or a day for yourself, Carlsbad has it all. Shopping and lodging are easily accessible. Plus, Palomar Airport (located right in the heart of Carlsbad) is accessible via American and United Airlines' commuter services. For larger commercial airlines, San Diego Lindbergh Field is only 30 minutes to the south.

And talk about housing. The local housing market in Carlsbad has mushroomed, thanks to a strong economy and location. No less than six new developments are currently underway in different parts of the city.

If you get a chance to visit our fine city, please don't hesitate to stop by. The welcome mat is always out for you.
