2010 Tax Brackets for Head of Households
(Schedule Z)

These tax tables are designed for individuals filing as head of household on their 2010 income tax return. Like the other income tax rates, the head of household rates differ significantly from the previous year.

These tables are effective January 1, 2010, and do not take into account any tax credits, such as the standard deduction, mortgage deductions, etc.

Mona Martin's Estimated Taxes

= Base Tax + (Rate x Amount Over)
  = $6,235.00 + [.25 x ($92,000 - $45,550)]
  = $6,235.00 + (.25 x $46,450)
  = $6,235.00 + $11,612.50
  = $17,847.50

Assuming she earned the same last year, Mona's total tax dropped $215 over last year (when she was using the 2009 income tax rate table for heads of household).

Example #2

Frank Fenner, the head of his household, has 2010 TAXABLE INCOME of $120,000. Frank's income falls between:

Frank Fenner's Estimated Taxes

= Base Tax + (Rate x Amount Over)
  = $24,260.00 + [.28 x ($120,000 - $117,650)]
  = $24,260.00 + (.28 x $2,350)
  = $24,260.00 + $658.00
  = $24,918.00

Frank also saved over the previous year, assuming he earned the same. His total tax dropped $365 from last year's tax return (when he was using the 2009 income tax rate table for heads of household).
