2012 Tax Brackets for Head of Households
(Schedule Z)

These tax tables are designed for individuals filing as head of household on their 2012 income tax return. Like the other income tax rates, the head of household rates differ significantly from the previous year.

These tables are effective January 1, 2012, and do not take into account any tax credits, such as the standard deduction, mortgage deductions, etc.

Joel Julian's Estimated Taxes

= Base Tax + (Rate x Amount Over)
  = $6,652.50 + [.25 x ($120,000 - $48,600)]
  = $6,652.50 + (.25 x $71,400)
  = $6,652.50 + $17,850.00
  = $24,502.50

Assuming he earned the same last year, Joel's total tax dropped $142.50 over last year (when he was using the 2011 income tax rate table for head of household).

Example #2

Billye Boyer, the head of her household, has 2012 TAXABLE INCOME of $210,000. Billye's income falls between:

Billye Boyer's Estimated Taxes

= Base Tax + (Rate x Amount Over)
  = $47,621.00 + [.33 x ($210,000 - $203,150)]
  = $47,621.00 + (.33 x $6,850)
  = $47,621.00 + $2,260.50
  = $49,881.50

Billye also saved over the previous year, assuming she earned the same. Her total tax dropped almost $500 from last year's tax return (when she was using the 2011 income tax rate table for head of household).
